Rare large decorative earthenware dish from the Manufacture de Sèvres, signed A. Naudy for the decorator André Naudy*, with Africanist decoration of a beautiful nude woman seated in a colorful interior, circa 1930 Art Deco XXth century.
This dish is in very good condition and is of exceptional quality. Trace of an antique label (exhibition or collector's) on the back.
The Africanist decor presented here is part of the 1930s and, more broadly, the interwar period, when African-themed motifs and decorations were very much in vogue and highly prized, culminating in the 1931 and 1937 Colonial Exhibitions held in Paris. Our dish (signature letter C de Sèvres = 1930) may well have been presented at either of these exhibitions.
Please note: slight wear and tear, see photos.
* André Naudy was a decorator at the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1925 and from 1928 to 1934. He worked with decorator Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann. Artist listed on ArtPrice.
