Antique banded agate necklace with its 14 karat gold clasp. Long necklace composed of 95 banded agate beads. The beads are arranged in a cascade, alternating between small and large beads. The clasp is hidden in a bead of the necklace and secured with a chain. Antique mourning necklace, 19th century.

In the 19th century, black or brown banded agate was highly prized in jewelry, particularly for Victorian mourning jewelry such as brooches, rings, or pendants, set in gold or silver.
