CATALAN 18k Gold Large Heart Pendant with Garnet — Traditional Catalan Jewelry 4.16 grams

A magnificent French pendant in the shape of a large 18K gold heart set with a Catalan garnet, a traditional Catalan piece of jewelry crafted according to the Catalan tradition of garnet jewelry: The garnet is cut in the traditional Perpignan style (known as the “Perpignan cut” or commonly called the “rose cut”), set in a closed-claw setting, and a small disc is inserted inside the rounded back. This pendant is exceptional thanks to the magnificent, intense, and brilliant red color of its garnets! The intensity of this flamboyant red varies, ranging from raspberry red to burgundy, then to carmine, mixed with black… Whether touched or in motion, its color is simply magical and enchanting! There isn’t really a major difference between PERPIGNAN garnet and CATALAN garnet; both, in the “rose” cut, are distinguished by two types of setting: the bezel setting and the claw bezel setting. They are distinguished by a rounded lower setting, and inside each setting is a metal piece called a “papillon,” which enhances the garnet’s brilliance. The difference lies in the fact that the so-called Catalan garnet is a “garnet” stone, whereas the Perpignan garnet is merely a variety within the “Catalan garnet” family, produced solely through lamination. And of course, the difference depends on the goldsmith who crafted them! They may use the same traditional CATALAN methods, but each has their own unique artistic vision.
