This very pretty ring is set with an oval-shaped amethyst, surrounded by a row of faceted marcasites, mounted on an openwork silver setting supported by a gold band. Amethyst is said to protect against drunkenness, a virtue drawn from mythology: Bacchus was very insistent with the pretty nymph Amethyst, who became frightened and called on Diana, who, to save her from Bacchus, transformed her into crystal.
