Nice pair of candlesticks from the end of the 18th century in gilt bronze, patina and marble.
This model, commonly known as "the Chinese", shows us a couple, dressed in their traditional clothes, each holding a sconce in the form of an umbrella.

At the end of the 17th and during the 18th century, French decorative arts were greatly influenced by Asian art, more specifically Chinese.
From furniture bronzes to fabrics, they entered the art collections of European nobility.
We then speak of “Chineseeries”.

Good condition, original patina and gilding, uncleaned.

Louis XVI-Directoire period, late 18th century.

Height: 31cm

On the last photograph, an antique version of "Où est Charlie"!
