MAISON MARNYHAC
1 RUE DE LA PAIX PARIS
Very attractive pair of bronze candlesticks with a brown patina in the style of Japonism from the second half of the 19th century, probably based on a design by Edouard Lièvre.
The Société des marbres et bronzes artistiques (Artistic Marble and Bronze Society) was founded by Charles de Marnyhac in Paris. Initially located on Avenue de l'Opéra, then Rue de la Paix, it specialized in the production of art objects. Maison Marnyhac won a medal at the 1878 Universal Exhibition. Maison Marnyhac's creations were among those of other great designers from the second half of the 19th century, a period during which Japan was a source of inventiveness, such as Barbedienne, Christofle, and the Escalier de Cristal. Marnyhac collaborated with Edouard Lièvre (1828-1886), one of the most creative ornamentalists of the second half of the 19th century.
