    Pair of two-light candelabra in finely chased gilt bronze, representing two young satyr-like children leaning on a stump, resting on a fluted grey marble base, Clodion* model, late 19th century.

    These candelabras are in good condition, and are electrified. One candelabra is signed Clodion. A similar pair is in the Louvre Museum, another was in the salon of the Hôtel de Tessé, Quai Voltaire, Paris, circa 1910-1920, and a pair with a different base is in the Munich Residence.
    Please note: some wear to the gilding, a pearl frieze moves a little on a base, some micro-chipping and age wear, take a good look at the photos.

    * Claude Michel dit Clodion
    Born in Nancy on December 20, 1738, and died in Paris on March 29, 1814, Claude Michel dit Clodion was a sculptor from Lorraine, and from 1766, from France. He probably spent his early life in Nancy and Lille. In 1755, he entered the Paris workshop of his maternal uncle Lambert Sigisbert Adam, a sculptor. He remained there for four years, and after his uncle's death became a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Pigal. He is known for his mythological groups of dancers, nymphs and bathers in terracotta. He also executed large-scale works, including "Hercules en repos", "le Fleuve Scamandre", "le Déluge", a bust of Tronchet, and others. He is also the author of the "aquatic" decor for the Château de Digoine.
