Pair of Louis XIV style two-light candelabra, in finely chased silver-plated metal decorated with plant arabesques and character mascarons on the shaft, canted foot, by the Maison Christofle* modèle Dupérier after the famous goldsmith Louis Dupérier (18th century), 20th century period.
These candelabras are in very good condition and of very high quality.
The Dupérier collection was published by Christofle in 1982. It is inspired by a piece made by Louis Dupérier, to whom it owes its name. Reçu maitre (master) in 1706, this early 18th-century silversmith bears witness to the Louis XIV style (see Christofle website). A pair of candlesticks of this model is in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
Please note: slight wear and tear, see photos.
*Christofle
is a French goldsmith's and silversmith's brand, founded in 1830 by Charles Christofle. Its master goldsmith hallmarks were registered in 1845, the date of the first "silvered goldsmith" factory. At the end of the 19th century, Christofle began producing silver-plated objects. In 1851, Emperor Napoleon III commissioned Christofle to produce all the official table services of the Empire. By the second half of the 19th century, Christofle was also supplying ministries, embassies and parliaments the world over, as well as luxury hotels and shipping and railway companies, both French and foreign.
