These Regency style candlesticks are made of gilded bronze. They rest on a large contoured foot made up of quarter-round steps and an ogee. The stem cast in shell, in three separate parts, rests on a large navel, it is in the shape of a three-sided baluster. These three faces are chiseled, in their upper and lower part, with scallop shells, small fish scale motifs, the sockets have six straight sides and the bobeches are contoured and recall the shape of the feet. The gilding, still full of sparkle, is superb, it presents on the protruding parts a slight wear which is of the most beautiful effect. The care taken in the production of these candlesticks demonstrates the excellence of the bronze craftsman who produced them. If the manufacturing technique is in all respects consistent with the techniques of the 18th century, the gilding has most certainly been redone and these torches could have been made in the 19th century, which is why we announce them in the Regency style.
