Pair of three-light candelabra in mercury-gilt bronze and bronze with a brown patina, Directoire period.

Square base supporting a patinated cylindrical stem decorated with a frieze of palmettes, draperies, and masks.

The stems support two brown-patinated figures of a woman and a man, each holding an urn from which emerges a bouquet of leaves and poppy buds. The bouquet terminates in poppy flower-shaped candle holders, each adorned with a gadrooned drip tray.

Height: 50.5 cm

Very good condition with minimal wear.

Directoire period, late 18th century

References: An identical pair in gilt and patinated bronze of the same height, which adorned the Élysée Palace, is reproduced in plate 30, figures 6 and 6 bis, in: *Les bronzes du Mobilier National, bronze d’éclairage et de chauffage* by Ernest Dumonthier, Massin edition (see last photo). A copy will be provided to the buyer.
