Gilt bronze, three elements
Paris, last quarter of the 18th century
Dimensions: H. 17 (cm.)
Pair of candlesticks or so-called "fist" or "toilet" candlesticks resting on a circular base with an acanthus frieze, the shaft in a column with rudentate fluting and asparagus stems. Bobèches decorated with a row of pearls.
This format has multiple names. They made it possible to wash oneself, and thanks to their compact format, to move around at night. Thus, they were often placed on small furniture such as a dressing table or a bedside table. But they can also be used as decoration, for example as desk toppings.
