Hello, I offer you this beautiful lamp whose foot is in spun glass with inclusions of gold flakes and a touch of ruby red glass, attributed to the house Barovier Murano revealing a majestic winged dragon.

Dimensions of the foot: Height: 42cm
    Diameter of the base: 18cm

It is in 1295 that Jacobello Barovier founded in Murano a glass factory in his name.

More than seven centuries later, Barovier & Toso is still going strong, ranking fifth among the oldest family businesses in the world.
Alongside it, five glass factories on the island have been in existence for over three hundred years.

The know-how of the glassmakers has been passed down from father to son, the most famous of the Baroviers being perhaps a certain Angelo, who is known to have died in 1461.

We owe him two major inventions, the lattimo, an opaque glass imitating porcelain, and the crystalline glass, for which he obtained not to turn off his furnaces during the obligatory period.

In spite of the prohibitions, Angelo Barovier will even go to work for a time in Florence, called by the Medici.

Murano's reputation did not falter until the end of the 18th century. In 1797, Napoleon put an end to the independence of the Republic of Venice.
The competition of the Bohemian crystal is affirmed.
It was the Universal Exhibitions, which were numerous at the end of the 19th century, that finally gave a new boost to Venetian glassmaking.
