Large pair of lamps made from porcelain vases that were converted to oil lamps around 1880-1900 and then to electricity around 1960.
Made in Japan, they are of Kutani porcelain*, glazed in black, red, and gold. The decorations in the main cartouches depict Chinese characters and immortals in the Chinese style.
The craftsmanship is considerable, with a multitude of details to observe; indeed, the four main decorative motifs are different.
Ready to use, the lampshades are different but will be shipped separately in another package.
The bronze mounts are in a chinoiserie/japonisme style and could use cleaning.
