Pair of Louis XVI Style Wall Sconces Aux Termes de Femmes in Chiseled and Gilded Bronze, circa 1850-1870

A rare pair of wall sconces known as Aux Termes de Femmes, finely chiseled in bronze with beautiful mercury gilding. The shafts, shaped like female terms, are finished with intertwined acanthus scrolls. The two light arms simulate the upper limbs of the women, set within a vegetal decor of foliage and grape clusters. Slight differences are noted in the bobeches.

Magnificent French craftsmanship from the Napoleon III era, circa 1850-1870, in the Louis XVI style, reminiscent of the work of the renowned goldsmith Robert-Joseph Auguste (1757-1801). A similar model from the 18th century is preserved at the Metropolitan Museum in New York (former Wrightsman collection).

    Dimensions:

    - Height: 12.60 inches

    - Total height with opalines: 15.75 inches

    - Width: 9.45 inches

    - Depth: 5.91 inches

In very good condition, these sconces exhibit a high quality of cold chiseling and original mercury gilding with a double patina, both matte and bright.
