Rare Noel & Gouery "Rotorevolver," 8-shot, 7.5 mm caliber, fulminate-fired.
Its manufacture dates from around 1865.
Octagonal rifled barrel decorated with a series of dots, surmounted by a sight incorporating a high front sight. The left side is marked "Système A Noël – Bté SGDG" in an oval. The right side is marked "J.F Gouery Canat & Cie – Paris."
Round frame and loading gate decorated with scrollwork. Fixed rear sight. Radial cylinder removable once the loading gate is open. Perforations around the circumference of the cylinder allow for cartridge loading, while holes on the inner face receive the fulminate pellets. Firing pin on the right side of the frame. The firing pin can be deactivated by means of a small safety lever. Folding trigger.
Walnut grip plates decorated with carved ribbons. Grip strap decorated to match the frame. Oval butt cap featuring the same dot pattern as the barrel on a sandblasted background.
This example bears the number 55 stamped on the trigger guard and butt cap.
This piece is in remarkable condition. It shows no pitting and retains its original bluing.
History: Although much later than the fulminate pellet system, this unusual weapon uses fulminate pellets for its firing mechanism.
