A 19th-century stiletto-style dagger. The straight, polished steel blade has two fullers and two central grooves, showing signs of oxidation and a patina from use. The brass guard is crescent-shaped and decorated with beaded motifs along the edge and a smooth central medallion. The blackened wood (ebony or blackened wood) handle features regular vertical fluting. The brass pommel is baluster-shaped. The original wooden scabbard is covered in black leather and has two brass fittings (a chape with a suspension button and a locket). The blade fits into the scabbard in a functional manner.

• Materials: Steel, brass, wood, leather.

• Period: 19th century.

• Condition: Used, patina on the brass elements, minor pitting on the blade.
