APPARAT HACHE also known as CHARPENTIER or MINER CORPORATION HACHE

Flat, single-edged axe head, stamped with five tâcheron marks and extended into a blunt spade. Openworked three times with a trefoil and cupules, and fitted with an oval socket with stop and oval sides.
Fruitwood handle entirely inlaid with bone and antler inserts cut into lozenges, baguettes and rectangular cartouches riveted with small iron nails. Yokes engraved with different stages of the miner's work, bearing various tools, notably picks or hammers.
Pommel carved from a section of bent antler, finely engraved and finished as a button. On both sides, two miners bearing the Saxon coat of arms.
