ROMANTIC DAGGER depicting a DRAGON defeating a SNAKE
European work from the 19th century
Steel and gilded bronze
Total length: 26; L.: 5.5 cm
Blade length: 13.5 cm
This romantic dagger, also called a dagger of virtue, is made of steel and gilded bronze, worked in the round. The openwork fuse is made of a large hemmed climbing plant at the foot of which a dragon defeats a snake. The guard with two straight quillons is animated by the coiling of the snake's body. The scabbard is entirely decorated on both sides with foliage scrolls on a sandblasted background where a chimera evolves, its end ends in a pine cone.
The straight steel blade with double edges and grooves, ends in a point. Suspension ring.
