SHORT SWORD KNOWN AS CINQUEDEA
Italy. 16th century for the blade – 19th century for the hilt
Steel.
Overall length: 65.5 cm. Blade length: 50 cm.
Broad, double-edged, triangular blade; fluted with four rows of fullers: four at the ricasso, then three, and two, ending with one at the point.
Geer-carved steel hilt with a frieze, fitted with two scales held by four rivets, two of which form rosettes. Rivet button.
The guard, with quillons inclined towards the blade, is entirely chased with a vine leaf motif, each centered with a profile of Caesar.
The blade is 16th century, and the hilt is later, certainly early 19th century.
Very good condition.
