WAR HELMET called KABUTO and maedaté
Type o-bashi suji bachi
Japan, Edo period (1603-1868)
Iron, lacquer, fabric, wood.
Helmet (kabuto): o-boshi sujibachi in iron with twenty-four lamellae, and one hundred and twenty protruding rivets. igaki in iron, tehen with three degrees.
On each of the fukigaeshi, two mon with a plum blossom motif are painted in gold. They refer to the coat of arms of the Maeda clan, one of the most powerful families.
Visor (mabisashi): in iron with three protruding rivets.
Central ornament, maedate, probably reused, is in lacquered wood with red veins, carved with a character, referring to the Kaneko, Matsudaira, Ōtaku and Takahashi families.
Neck guard (shikoro): with five painted iron slats, and braided in midnight blue.
The kabuto is an object loaded with tradition for Japanese culture. An integral part of military armor, it was that of high-ranking samurai.
Good condition overall.
Sold with its base.
