The main mirror is framed with Bérain-style baguettes. The beveled-edge mirrors framing the main mirror are decorated at the corners with spandrels of stylized palms, with foliage scrolls rising from flower buds.
At the top, the graceful curved pediment is framed by two bunches of flowers. The glazing beads are set in a moving frame decorated with foliage, arabesques, rocaille and a variety of flowers.
This large mirror is particularly representative of the Regency period. Its classical lower section is combined with a symmetrical, well-balanced pediment.
An original feature of this piece is the use of two types of gilding. For the protruding parts, the craftsmen of the period opted for a red plate or bowl with tempera gilding. For the more recessed parts, a rare yellow bowl was applied, coupled with mixtion gilding. This work, attesting to the special attention paid to this mirror, was carried out to give a particular relief, depth and quality rendering, perhaps expressly requested by the commissioner.
Regency period, 18th century. Maintenance restorations.
