France, Lunel, 1950s/1960s, very pretty enameled ceramic mirror, creation by Mithé Espelt. Marie-Thérèse Espelt known as Mithé Espelt was born in 1923 in Lunel (Hérault). Thanks to his grandfather and his friends such as Frédéric Mistral, Jean Hugo, Edmond Baissat and many others, Mithé Espelt grew up in an artistic universe which would influence his life course. She learned to draw very early and, at only sixteen years old, she studied sculpture and drawing then, in 1943, joined the Fontcarrade Artistic Training School, a center of excellence in the art of ceramics under the supervision of Émilie Decanis. . Mithé Espelt began his career in Paris in Atelier Lydia Chartier, creating ceramic buttons for haute couture and names as famous as Line Vautrin. However, attached to her roots, she returned to Lunel in 1923 to create her workshop. His ceramic creations were a great success and more than five hundred models left the workshops.
This superb mirror is a reflection of his talent. It is referenced on page 101 of the reference work produced by Antoine Candau, Odyssée editions in 2020, the year of his death.
Good condition except for slight and normal alterations to the surface of the mirror but without any impact on the aesthetics.
