A very rare painting by Dom Angelico Surchamp, born José Surchamp on June 23, 1924, in Troyes, and died in Avallon on March 1, 2018, a Benedictine monk and founder of Zodiaque publishing house in 1951. This painting, full of spiritual modesty, is reproduced in the 1972 issue of Zodiaque magazine (plate on page 11) entitled "Viewpoints on Abstract Art and Sacred Art," as well as in the "Dom Angelico Surchamp" catalog from the Weber Gallery in Paris for the "Surchamp" exhibition of January 1974. An important document. Dimensions: 54 x 82 cm. Louis Aragon recounts an encounter with Surchamp: "Dom Angelico had only a few words to say. He said: 'Don't you believe, gentlemen, that abstract art, by transferring the meaning of reality, facilitates access to the sacred?'" A beautiful definition, unfortunately sometimes misused.
