Late 18th or early 19th century French school in the style of Jean Pillement, depicting a winter pastoral landscape by a river and a cliff, with a shepherd and his herd of goats and a village in the background.

The unsigned painting is presented in its fine Restauration-period gilded wood frame. On its original canvas, it bears on the back the stamp of Maison Alphonse Giroux, at Coq Honoré in Paris.

The House of Alphonse Giroux was one of the most famous tabletterie and cabinetmaking stores in Paris, active from 1799 until the end of the Second Empire. From 1799 to 1848, it operated at 7 rue du Coq Saint Honoré in Paris, under the name of Coq Honoré. The company's specialty was small, high-end furniture for the bourgeoisie and nobility; the royal family also purchased from Le Coq Honoré.

A lovely picture, ideal to complete a collection of early 19th-century neoclassical furniture.

It is in excellent condition: cleaned, on its original canvas without repainting, in its original frame gilded with gold leaf and restored by our gilder.
