Brief biography: Patrice Landauer
Patrice Landauer is a French painter born in 1965.
Patrice Landauer developed his style through extensive artistic studies. He trained in graphic design and books at the Ecole supérieure des Arts appliqués, then followed the Penninghem curriculum. But it was painting that represented his true path, and he studied painting at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in Albert Zavaro's studio.
In the great tradition of travelling painters, Patrice Landauer has developed a highly personal body of work, at odds with all the usual trends in contemporary art.
He travels in space, bringing back visionary paintings from his sojourns in Africa, where light dances and shimmers to highlight people and places. He deals happily with animals and people, notably in his depictions of the world of horse racing.
But he also travels back in time, drawing powerful inspirations from his historical pictorial culture. His works are populated by biplanes from the time of the aviation pioneers, locomotives worthy of Gabin from La Bête humaine, or Parisian scenes from the Belle Epoque.
He treats his subjects with a thick, solid paste, anchoring his painting in reality and concreteness. Thanks to this powerful style, his works avoid nostalgia or anecdote; they take us into a very present universe, where the artist's imagination vibrates with palpable, sensitive life.
