A figurative painter and engraver, Robert Savary belonged to the "Jeune Peinture", also known as the "Jeunes Peintres" of the Nouvelle École de Paris or "Jeune Peinture de l'École de Paris". A student of Maurice Brianchon at the Beaux-arts de Paris, he won the Casa de Velãquez prize in 1948 and the Prix de Rome in 1950.
With its qualities of light, Robert Savary's work is part of a particular tradition of French painting, that of clear painting, made up of pleasure and radiance.

After living in Madrid for two years, he returned to Paris in 1949 and was appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Musée des Beaux Arts de Rouen.
From 1946 onwards, Savary exhibited his work at a number of prestigious salons, including the Salon de Mai, the Salon des Tuileries, the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts.
He also took part in the Second Sao Paolo Biennial, and his work was exhibited at Galerie Drouant-David and Galerie Charpentier in Paris in 1955.
In 1960, the Musée Galliera in Paris offered him a solo exhibition.
He received numerous awards for his work, including a Gold Medal in 1975 at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, a Silver Medal in 1958 at the Salon de la Marine in Paris, followed two years later by a Gold Medal.

Savary's paintings can be serene and calm, or full of activity and movement. He has learned his lesson from Matisse, revealing in his paintings a "joie de vivre" full of life and animation.
With his enthusiastic temperament, he painted subjects that breathed joy, happiness and life. Throughout his career, he never ceased to be amazed by the beauty of nature and women's bodies, but also by the hidden beauty of intimacy and everyday life. In his painting, he synthesized realism, impressionism and fauvism. His color palette is usually vivid, giving his paintings, made of pleasure and radiance, a very special light. The artist paints nature and landscapes as he travels and lives.
