• Attilio Guffanti, descendant of an old Lombard family, was born on March 19, 1875 in Rovescale, in the province of Pavia. He studied in Milan with Luigi Conconi and in Pavia with Pietro Michis (director of the Pavia painting school of 1880 to 1900). He then befriends Romeo Borgogni, with whom he will remain in contact throughout his life. Then, he enrolled in courses at the Academy of Venice, where he obtained his diploma as a painter. During his stay in Venice he frequented Luigi Nono and Ange d'Oca Bianca, and frequented Ettore Tito's studio. After 1900, he went to the academy in Rome.
• After his family moved to Genoa, he moved to the Côte d'Azur, and settled permanently in Nice, where he lived with his wife Victorine, and his two children Maurice and Lilette.
• He rubs shoulders with the large colony of Russian nobles in exile who greatly appreciate his portraits. This earned him the nickname "painter of the Grand Duchess".
• Contemporary criticism has highlighted the reliability of the line, the freshness and the naturalness of the colors, celebrating "the portrait painter of excellence, an interpreter who starts from the physical resemblance to reach the spiritual and psychological reality of his models".
• The countryside and mountains of the Alpes Maritimes and the French Riviera also offer many subjects of delicious landscapes. His works have been regularly exhibited both in Nice and in Italy, for example:
* • - Gallery of artistic woods, 1928, Nice - Gallerie Valle, 1929 Genoa - Cenacolo galerie San Giorgio 1931 Genoa - Gallerie Gerie, 1930, Milan, Ritratto del figlio - Mairie de Rovescale, March 19, 1992, Retrospective of the work
