Magnificent pastel by American artist John Recknagel, signed and dated 1921. He moved to Concarneau in 1899, where he became friends with fellow American painter Charles Henry Fromuth, who, through his exclusive use of charcoal and pastel, influenced his own technique. In 1902, he settled in Fouesnant, Finistère, Brittany.
