    Max Agostini (1914-1997)

"Entrance to the Port and View of the Town of Cassis"

    Oil on canvas,
    Signed lower left,
Numbered on the back of the stretcher,

A beautiful, colorful work by the Corsican-born painter Max Agostini, depicting a view of the entrance to the port of Cassis with the lighthouse and the town.
The artist uses a palette of bright and vibrant colors, bringing his work to life and perfectly capturing the light of a summer day in Provence. The sea appears to be in motion thanks to the masterful brushstrokes and the subtle variations in the water's colors.

A leading figure among contemporary Impressionists, Max Agostini was born in Paris in 1914, of Corsican descent through his grandparents. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and discovered a true talent for Impressionism. Drafted into the French Army for five years at the beginning of World War II, Max Agostini was taken prisoner for three years.

In the post-war period, he distinguished himself as an excellent portrait and landscape painter in Châteauroux, where he worked for several years. Later, he settled in Gargilesse in the Berry region and in Provence.
In January 1997, he was still painting his finest canvases just days before his hospitalization.

He is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest colorists of his time.

Dimensions: 33 x 55 cm unframed and 55.5 x 77.5 cm with its original wooden frame.
