    Scottish painter specializing in maritime paintings inspired by 17th century Dutch masters. He exhibited for the first time at the Royal Academy in 1780 and continued to exhibit every year until 1811 and until 1834. His finest works date from the years 1790-1810, during the French Revolution. Our painting belonged to the Fussey family established in Côte d'Or (a wax seal with the family coat of arms appears on the back).
