20th-century painting signed by Foued Zaouche (1944-2015) depicting figures in the Tunis medina.
Oil on panel, dimensions: 60 cm x 42 cm, period frame.

He exhibited oils on canvas for the first time at the Jean Camion Gallery in Paris in 1979 and again in 1980. After an exhibition at the Yahia Gallery in Tunis in 1981, a series of 22 exhibitions took place at the Saidi Bou Said Museum between 1982 and 2007. In 2010, he opened his own gallery, L'Atelier du dedans in Gammarth, in a space adjoining his home and studio, open by appointment outside of exhibitions.

From the age of 29, Foued Zaouche attended evening classes for five years at a studio in Montparnasse, Paris, where he learned the techniques of anatomy, perspective, engraving, and sculpture. He subsequently made copies at the Louvre Museum. Zaouche followed the pictorial and naturalist movement and explored the themes of portraiture, history painting, genre scenes, and religious painting related to Tunisia's heritage and history, as well as the nude and still life.

He died on March 25, 2015, and was buried the following day in the Djellaz cemetery.
