On the back of the canvas, the mark of the artist's supplies supplier Haro, referenced between 1826 and 1847 by the Labreuche guide.
Note: This sketch on paper pasted on canvas was made in situ by an artist in the entourage of Ingres, a great admirer of Raphael and director of the Académie de France in Rome from 1835 to 1842. Ingres urged the boarders to copy and draw inspiration from Raphael. This painting was produced within this framework, and glued to canvas by Haro on the painter's return to Paris. Haro was known as Ingres' (and Delacroix's) supplier.
