Gaston PROST
Paris, 1867 - 1967
The model
Oil on cardboard
45 x 37 cm (52 x 60 cm with frame)
Signed lower left “Gaston Prost”

Painter, engraver and lithographer, Gaston Prost was in Montpellier in 1916 when his brother joined him. The sculptor Maurice Prost studied in Paris before coming to Montpellier while Gaston Prost seems to have stayed there. He is less known today than his younger brother and remained a good painter of landscapes and genre scenes.
Our painting is particularly successful and is characteristic of painting from the 1920s/1930s in the search for materiality and a new reality thanks to the touch and color.
