"Henri DÉZIRÉ, 1878-1965, "Reclining nude", important oil on canvas."
Henri DÉZIRÉ, born in Libourne in Gironde on February 6, 1878 and died in Paris on October 31, 1965. Painter of still lifes influenced by Manet and portraits of the French school. Student of William A. Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier at the Académie Julian then at the Académie des Beaux-Arts. He began at the Salon de la société des artistes français in 1904 with honorable mention and then exhibited in numerous salons, as well as in galleries in France and abroad. From 1906 he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. He was entrusted with the hanging and general organization of the show in 1930, and in 1932, he was the one who created the poster and the invitation cards. He will be part of the jury for the 1936 show, and will be part of the Honorary Committee from 1952. He sends paintings to the Salon des Indépendants, to the Société nationale des beaux-arts, to the Salon des tuileries. The Salon d'Automne sometimes relocates to the provinces and abroad, and Henry Déziré's paintings are hung in La Rochelle, in 1927, in Saint Étienne, in 1938 or 39 then in 1943, in Vienna in 1946. Salon des Tuileries also sent paintings, notably to the United States, to Indianapolis in 1931 and to Dallas in 1932. He received prizes, the State bought paintings from him, even if most of his paintings were bought by collectors.
Many museums have paintings by Henry Déziré: the Center Georges Pompidou, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille (North), the Museum of Fine Arts in Nantes (Loire Atlantique), the Museum of Art and History Marcel Dessal in Dreux (Eure-et-Loir), the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Saint-Étienne Métropole (Loire), the National Center for Plastic Arts, the Museum of Art and Archeology of Guéret (Creuse) , the La Rochelle Museum of Fine Arts, the Faouët Museum, the Alfred-Canel Museum in Pont-Audemer and the Baron-Martin Museum in Gray (Haute-Saône).
