    Alfonso Meléndez Arana (March 31, 1927 – November 18, 2005) was a painter of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent born in New York City. In his youth, Arana studied art in Mexico at the Atelier de José Bardasana of the Manhattan Schools of Art in New York City, the Académie Julian, and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and completed postgraduate studies at the American University in Washington, DC.
