Painting HST Georges M. J. GIRARDOT (1856-1914) "Couple de Faucheurs" 1907

Painting (dated 1907) in oil on paper laid down on panel (isorel type) depicting a landscape with a couple of reapers, a theme of ordinary life favored by the artist Georges Marie Julien GIRARDOT (1856-1914).
Works by this distinguished artist are rare on the market, but are already setting records (record at 55,000 euros for a symbolist work). Good condition, (one old retouch visible in low light, some age cracks) - all visible on photos.

Biography :

Georges Girardot was a painter born in Besançon on August 4, 1856 and died in 1914.
Trained in Paris by the painter Albert Maignan, he was an associate member of the Académie des sciences, belles lettres et arts de Besançon et de Franche-Comté from 1907 to 1914, and a member of the Artistes français since 1883. Girardot mainly exhibited genre scenes at the Salon.
At the 1890 Salon, he illustrated a custom from the Franche-Comté region, and showed a predilection for village scenes (Avant la noce;Scène de marché à Pesmes;Allégorie des Quatre saisons).Girardot won several medals (Mention honorable in 1893, médaille de troisième classe in 1896, médaille de deuxième classe in 1907).
He also painted more intimate scenes (La toilette du dimanche), portraits (La Brodeuse; Portrait de Jean Girardot) and still lifes (Composition à la soupière; Composition à l'écorché et au triptyque; Composition au buste antique).

Georges Girardot was trained by the artist Albert Maignan in Paris. He was a member of the Society Of French Painters from 1883 and principally showed genre scenes at the Salon. He was awarded several medals for his works. The pictures shown here show a pre-delictation the artist had for scenes of village.
