Studd is a British artist of considerable importance for his role in the Pont-Aven art colony, where he met Gauguin at Le Pouldu in 1890. his links with Gauguin, with whom he traveled to Papeete in 1897-1898, and his proximity to James Abbott Mac Neil Whistler 1834- 1903 (both were neighbors in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea).

After working with Whistler, Studd was definitely influenced by him. He was also close to Walter Sickert (1860-1942).

A work by Arthur Studd comparable to ours is in the collections of the Tate Museum in London: Venetian Lyric (Santa Maria della Salute)(?)
