Józef Popczyk (1890-1971) was a Polish painter whose work is rooted in the currents of Cubism and Art Deco.
Born in Poland, he moved to Paris around 1915, joining many Eastern European artists attracted by the artistic effervescence of the French capital.
He initially adopted an academic style, but in the 1930s evolved towards a cubist aesthetic marked by geometric forms and fragmented compositions. Popczyk is particularly renowned for his vibrant paintings of Parisian nightlife, including jazz and club scenes.
