    PLACE DE LA CONCORDE, oil on canvas, signed lower left: Henry MALFROY

    Charles Henri Malfroy (1895–1945) was a French painter;
    He exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants until 1934.
    Adopting a technique similar to Impressionism, he painted the coastlines and ports of the Bouches-du-Rhône and Var regions, as well as landscapes of Paris and the banks of the Seine.
    His work was featured in the painting competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics. A member of the French Resistance during World War II, Malfroy was arrested and died at the Buchenwald concentration camp. ] He was posthumously awarded the Order of Liberation.

    This large-scale painting depicts an iconic Parisian scene, featuring pedestrians, vintage vehicles, and trees with sparse foliage, which enhance the perspective and depth. Malfroy’s Impressionist style, characterized by a subtle play of light and reflections on the wet cobblestones, lends a nostalgic charm to this lively scene and captures the energy and elegance of the capital in the rain.
