Oil painting on wood of the French school dating from the beginning of the 19th century.
This work depicts a shepherdess leading her flock of sheep to pasture. This woman, holding a young lamb in one arm and pulling up her skirt with the other, leads her cattle through a shallow marsh.
The subject of the shepherdess with sheep, addressed in many works, is treated here with a very pronounced play of luminosity. The herd emerges from the darkness of the forest heading towards the plains and mountains visible in the background, to graze there for many months.
This painting has a gilded frame, carved with foliage, acanthus flowers and friezes.
This oil painting will appeal to lovers of finely executed art.
