    A striking orientalist scene, entitled The Slave Market, painted in oil on a copper plate, signed lower right J. Muller Paris. This precious technique, used by some academic artists of the 19th century, gives the work exceptional finesse in detail and a perfectly smooth surface. The composition depicts a slave market in a setting inspired by orientalist fantasies, typical of the Romantic era.
