    Geskel Saloman was a Danish-Swedish portrait and genre painter. He moved to Sweden in 1850 where he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where he studied under Johan Ludwig Lund. There he exhibited mainly genre scenes and portraits, notably that of the painter Conrad Christian Bøhndel and the portrait of Thomas Overskou for which he won the Neuhausenske Præmier in 1848. Our portrait, due to its size, is remarkably fine with very beautiful details such as the necklace, the collar of the dress, the fingers and the book. The great beauty of this woman also adds to the charm of this unidentified portrait, which recalls the portraits of Van Dyck from which he may have drawn inspiration.
