Jean Laudy (1877-1956) was a Dutch-Belgian painter renowned for his portraits, still lifes and floral compositions, particularly his depictions of roses. Born in Venlo, Netherlands, he moved to Belgium in 1893, where he studied at the Academies of Fine Arts in Antwerp and Brussels under Isidore Verheyden. He also attended the free studios of La Patte de Dindon and L'Effort in Brussels. In 1921, he obtained Belgian nationality.
Laudy is known for his Impressionist-influenced style, characterized by a generous application of paint and sometimes blurred contours. His subjects include human figures, nudes, portraits, interiors, urban and rural landscapes, as well as vibrant floral compositions. He was one of the official portraitists of King Albert I and the Belgian royal family.
During his career, Laudy exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Cercle des Beaux-Arts and the Salon de La Libre Esthétique. He was awarded a gold medal at the 1910 Universal Exhibition in Brussels. In 1954, he became a member of the Académie royale de Belgique.
