Léa Lafugie (1890-1972) was a painter who traveled extensively throughout Asia. She is renowned for her portraits. She studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Possessing an adventurous and inquisitive spirit, she decided in 1925 to travel to Asia, notably to China, India, Tibet, Japan, and the Indochinese Peninsula. She left behind numerous portraits of women, painted from life during her travels.
