An antique oil-on-canvas painting depicting the Crucifixion of Christ with the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, dating from the early 18th century.

This exquisitely crafted painting dates from the late 17th or early 18th century and depicts the dramatic scene of the Crucifixion on Calvary.

The composition follows a rigorous pyramidal structure, strongly influenced by the classical tradition.

At the center stands the monumental figure of Jesus Christ on the cross, characterized by precise anatomical rendering and a sinuous, dynamic white drape (loincloth).

On either side of the cross, the Virgin Mary shares in the sorrow, wrapped in a deep blue cloak that opens over a powder-pink dress, her face turned toward the sky in an expression of sadness.

On the right, Saint Joseph is depicted as a mature man, as described in the Gospels, emphasizing his wisdom.

The background is dominated by a leaden, stormy sky, pierced by a moonbeam that accentuates the scene’s expressive power.

In the background, one can make out the blurred silhouettes of Jerusalem’s classical architecture, notably its temple.
