Inluminated 19th-century parchment with gold highlights.

This delicate miniature depicts the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus on her lap. The scene is imbued with gentleness: the Child turns towards his mother in an affectionate gesture, while Mary bows her head slightly in an attitude of tenderness and contemplation. A radiant halo underlines their sacred nature.
The whole is framed by a richly decorated border of floral motifs, colorful foliage, birds and insects, typical of French Renaissance book illumination.

Gilded stucco frame from the 19th century. The marie-louise is slightly foxed and the frame has been slightly restored.
