Large oil on panel by an Antwerp school, in a later light wood frame.
In the center, the Virgin Mary, dressed in a deep blue cloak, holds the Infant Jesus, who receives the homage of the richly adorned Magi. One of them, kneeling, kisses the Child's hand in a gesture of veneration. The scene is crowded with elegantly dressed figures, angels and servants, underscoring the universality of the Christian message. The background, punctuated by architecture and a dark sky, accentuates the drama of the scene.
The warm, contrasting chromatic palette is typical of the Flemish school of the 16th and 17th centuries.
