Signed and dated lower left "Camille Dolard / 1850 ou 60".
Camille Dolard was a famous photographer of the 1830s-1850s. He abandoned photography for painting in the late 1850s, and exhibited his astonishingly realistic still lifes and portraits at the Lyon Salon, coming very close to trompe l'oeil!
Our painting could be the one exhibited in 1860 at the annual show of the Société des Amis des Arts de la ville de Lyon in the main hall of the municipal museum, entitled "Après-dîner. - Still life" (number 245).
