*Juliette Bonheur or Juliette Peyrol-Bonheur was born in Paris on July 19, 1830, and died in the same city on April 29, 1891. She was a French painter, known for her animal paintings, and was the sister of the artists Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899), Auguste Bonheur (1824-1884), and Isidore Bonheur (1827-1901). Her father was Raymond Bonheur, a landscape and portrait painter who encouraged his daughter's artistic talents.
She lived in Bordeaux until 1846. She received her painting training from her father, as did her older sister Rosa.
She married François Hippolyte Peyrol (1832-1921), owner of a bronze foundry, and took the name Juliette Peyrol Bonheur; they had two sons: Hippolyte Peyrol (1856-1929), who became a sculptor, and René (1860-1899), a painter.
It is often believed that Rosa gave up sculpture so as not to overshadow Isidore; however, her painting overshadowed that of Juliette and another brother, Auguste, both quite esteemed in their time. She exhibited her paintings at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1853 and at the Salon from 1852 to 1889.
She even received an honorable mention at the 1855 Universal Exhibition in Paris and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1876.
Juliette Bonheur died in the 11th arrondissement of Paris on April 29, 1891.
Her works were exhibited at the Palace of Fine Arts during the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
