Jacques Carelman is a French painter, theater designer and illustrator.
He arrived in Paris in 1956 and devoted himself to various artistic activities (theatrical decoration, book illustration, painting and sculpture). Our painting dates from this period.

In 1966, he adapted Raymond Queneau's novel "Zazie dans le métro" into a comic strip. He is the author of the famous May 68 poster representing the black silhouette of a CRS brandishing a baton.
We especially owe to Carelman a parody of the "Manufrance" catalog, the "Catalogue of Introuvable Objects" (1969), translated into 19 languages. He had some of the objects in his catalog produced and exhibited them (from November 1974 to January 1975) in Marseille, at the Vieille Charité.
In 1972 he published a second catalog, the “Catalogue of untraceable postage stamps”.
It was on his initiative that the artistic movement Oupeinpo (Potential Painting Workshop) was (re)founded in 1980.
